In 1998, movie-director Alexandre JODOROWSKY and master card-maker Philippe CAMOIN achieve the task of restoring the TAROT of MARSEILLES. A research which led to discoveries: secrets "hidden" for centuries.
Legendery film director, master of Tarot, script-writer for comic-strips and novelist Alexandre Jodorowsky has been studying Tarot for over 40 years. He regards the Tarot of Marseilles as the only reference Tarot which he has studied for over 20 years. Alexandre Jodorowsky then decides together with Philippe Camoin to restore the Original Tarot. "Knowing secret facts regarding its history, manufacturing, tradition, symbolism and having the original plates, we were the only ones who could restore the Original Tarot of Marseilles", assesses Alexandre Jodorowsky.
Philippe Camoin has studied symbolism since the age of 14. "I grew up with the Tarot. As a child, the prints on my bedroom walls were the 78 arcana of Nicolas Conver’s Tarot of Marseilles, who founded what would later become the Camoin House."

The CAMOIN House

Founded in 1760 by Nicolas CONVER who carved the same year the Tarot of Marseilles, the Conver manufacture lates becomes the Camoin House  through a mariage. It prints decks of cards and sells them throughout the world : over one million decks a year at the turn of the century. Besides its standard Tarot of Marseilles deck by Nicolas Conver, it produces several various Tarots and exports chinese, italian and egyptian decks. It then acquires the african market, as well as a quasi-total monopoly over spanish cards.
Today, Philippe CAMOIN , the heir of this tradition, perpetuates this Excellence together with Alexandre JODOROWSKY by restoring, after years of scientific work, the Tarot of Marseilles.
