Why did the colors change ?

The colors of the Tarots of Marseille in use during the 20th century have been copied on the pattern of a CAMOIN deck printed in 1880 and from whose colors are a unique blunder in the Tarot Tradition's history. To know more about that, click here.

Who drew the Tarot of Marseille Restored by A.Jodorowsky and Ph.Camoin ?

Philippe CAMOIN : "I am the Heir of the Card Masters Tradition which goes back to Nicolas CONVER (founder in 1760 of the factory that will become the CAMOIN House). So, it was obvious that I had to hold the electronic pen. The work on the computer was made at a very high enlargement (magnification). The eye of a figure could occupy the whole screen. So, Alexandre could also act precisely on the lines drawn through me : so, we were both correcting the drawings. Alexandre and I decided by common consent if the drawing was achieved or not. For the work to be over, it had to please to both of us, otherwise it was redone again and again. We are both of us such Tarot lovers that it is difficult for the reader to imagine the time we spent just to correct details more little than a pin head".

Why did Jodorowsky and Camoin worked together ?

Alexandre JODOROWSKY : "Philippe is the last card master of the planet. When he came and saw me, it was lihe if the Tarot itself came into my house. And we worked together."
Philippe CAMOIN : "For me, there is no chance. When I was 20 years old, I saw Alexander's movie "The Holy Mountain". I spoke about it to all my friends for months telling to them it was the smartest movie of the moment. Just a while after that, Alexandre dedicated himself to the Tarot of Marseille whose I am the Heir of the Tradition. We did'nt know each other physically and yet our thoughts were already crossing. It is so very natural that some years later, we worked together. The Tarot of Marseille is ont only a deck of playing cards, it is a responsability. Alexandre was for me the only one having understood that. He renounced to everything to study Tarot. That's the reason why I worked with him".

What role did Philippe CAMOIN play in the Tarot of Marseille Restoration?

Philippe CAMOIN is studying the Tarot of Marseille and Symbolism since the age of 14 as well as the different religions, Alchemy, western Esoterism, tibetan Boudhism, Parapsychology, the Power of the Soul, Chamanism, Hindouism, Shivaism. And he practiced contemplation. At the age of 26, he understands he is the keeper of the Tarot of Marseille's Tradition. He prepared himself to this heavy task during 14 years before undertaking with Alexandre JODOROWSKY the renewal of this ancient Tradition.
